Lunar New Year 2023 - Year of the Rabbit
January 22, 2023 marks the start of the Lunar New Year for many Asian cultures. This year in the Chinese zodiac is the year of the rabbit. I was curious what the rabbit represented in the Chinese zodiac and found that it symbolizes longevity, peace and prosperity. What a great opportunity to reflect on our own practices of these concepts.
Longevity
The term longevity initially has me thinking about physical well-being and ensuring a long life through practices such as balanced diet and exercise. Makes sense.
But let’s go a bit deeper - what kind of life is worth living for a long time?
For me, a life worth living means balance.
Serving others and focusing on my own well-being.
Eating healthy meals and indulging in my favorite foods.
Being productive and resting.
Traveling the world and enjoying time in my hometown of Cincinnati.
Moving/exercising my body and resting my body.
Peace
Being a therapist, I immediately think of mental/emotional peace. How do I work towards peace in my own life?
I go to therapy (yes! Therapists need therapy too!).
I maintain communication with close friends and family members.
I schedule rest by myself and rest with my family.
I read for pleasure and inspiration.
I spend time in nature.
I practice gratitude.
Prosperity
For me, the word prosperity elicits a sense of hope and my wants/dreams of abundance in different areas of life. Clearly prosperity brings to mind financial prosperity. But I would also hope for prosperity in other areas of my life:
Quality time with loved ones.
Laughter.
Time for hobbies/own interests.
Sparkling water 🙃 I can never have enough.
Love given and love received.
I hope these concepts help you think about how longevity, peace, and prosperity can be applied to your own life.
Happy Lunar New Year!
Wishing you a wonderful year of the rabbit full of longevity, peace, and prosperity.
