Walk and Talk Therapy

At Conscious Roots Counseling, we now offer “Walk and Talk” therapy sessions!

Walk and Talk sessions can be a great option for your therapy sessions. Just talk to your therapist about this option.

Benefits

There is evidence that the movement of walking while processing thoughts, emotions, and/or past memories can help the therapy process. The act of walking requires using your whole body vs just sitting in a chair during a session. This use of the whole body ignites more parts of your brain, so while you’re processing with your therapist, you are able to access more thoughts, feelings, or memories.

You are also out in nature which allows for more moments of mindfulness. You and your therapist can practice utilizing mindfulness techniques out in nature by noticing the wind, clouds, temperature, etc.

And of course there is the benefit of moving your body - all of the physical benefits, but also regular movement can reduce stress and symptoms of depression and/or anxiety.

If you’re a busy parent (or a busy person!), this can tackle two self-care needs at once. You get your body moving AND you get therapy at the same time. Win - Win!

How to Start

If you are interested in Walk and Talk with your therapist, just ask! The therapist will review the pros and cons and what to do in a variety of situations. The risks of Walk and Talk are mostly the possibility of you or your therapist seeing someone you/they know while on the walk. Your therapist will discuss what to do if either of you see someone you know.

Cincinnati Walk and Talk

The weather in Cincinnati varies greatly, so Walk and Talk is likely not a possibility for every session, but you can do it as often as possible! The office of Conscious Roots Counseling is located in Blue Ash. Our street actually connects to Summit Park through a back road, so you could either meet your therapist at our office, or we could arrange to meet at the park. We are also near Blue Ash Nature Park and we could meet you there as well. Both Summit Park and Blue Ash Nature Park offer nature paths that are shaded. Summit Park is larger and therefore offers more variety in walking paths.

Before you start Walk and Talk sessions, discuss with your therapist the pros/cons of your chosen location.

Note about Insurance

We currently only accept CareSource Ohio insurance plans (Medicaid and Marketplace). Unfortunately, CareSource does not allow for Walk and Talk sessions. If you are a self-pay client, you are able to participate in Walk and Talk therapy.
