TALK THERAPY & EMDR THERAPY IN CINCINNATI

Individual therapy for adults and adolescents at Conscious Roots Counseling

You don’t have to handle your thoughts and feelings all by yourself.

You might know exactly why you’re searching for a therapist. Maybe you feel that familiar clench in your stomach when you remember certain experiences. Maybe that feeling rises up whenever it’s time to do a certain thing, like go to school, drive to work, or interact with a family member.

Trauma, anxiety, and depression tend to speak to us loudly, and getting support to process these feelings is a powerful decision.

But you might not know exactly what’s going on, either. You might feel sad, worried, or lost, like life feels a lot heavier than it should, without understanding why.

And this, also, is a completely valid reason for seeking out therapy, to better understand what (and why) you’re feeling, and to find some relief.

Therapy opens the door to clarity and healing.

Because our thoughts, feelings, and experiences are often deeply rooted, becoming conscious of our past can help us process and heal.

That’s what therapy is here to help with, unearthing insights that can explain why you’ve struggled with your mood or emotions, self-image or relationships, or certain events in your life.

By gently exploring belief patterns, feelings, and thoughts rooted in different chapters of your life, you can gain awareness over why you feel the way you do and where it stems from.

And that awareness changes everything. It frees you up to develop more self-compassion, learn new ways to constructively cope, build confidence and self-trust, and move through your life with more resilience.

The goal of therapy isn’t about becoming happy all the time, or learning to “soldier on” and push your way forward. Instead, being mentally healthy is about learning to acknowledge and truly feel the emotions that make sense for every one of life’s ups and downs. To get there, we need to go way beyond generic advice like meditating or getting more sleep. (Staying up too late watching Netflix? Let’s just say we’ve been there.)

Therapy isn’t a quick fix, but it’s so worth it—for the rest of your life.

Therapy for Adults and Adolescents in Cincinnati

Our therapy and counseling approaches

EMDR Therapy

What it is, and how it works.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a specialized form of therapy known for positive outcomes related to depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other trauma responses. At Conscious Roots Counseling, all of our therapists are clinically trained in EMDR and can offer support to both adults and adolescents.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR utilizes bilateral brain stimulation. This involves doing something that activates alternate sides of the brain, like watching a light move from left to right. This helps activate your brain’s natural healing processes and reprocess memories that got "stuck" and still fuel symptoms like flashbacks, panic attacks, low self-worth, or feeling constantly on guard.

After you and your therapist have worked together to develop your coping skills, you’ll begin the phases of EMDR that focus on processing trauma and symptom reduction.

During a session, you can follow a light bar or your therapist’s fingers with your eyes, wear headphones that play alternating tones, hold pulsers that vibrate in alternating hands, or even tap on your own shoulders. As this bilateral stimulation is happening, your therapist guides you as you recall distressing memories from the past, and over time, their ability to trigger painful emotions will diminish.

In some ways it’s like watching a movie of what occurred, but you now control the remote. You feel empowered to pause, rewind or fast-forward through different parts. You get to become an objective observer, instead of involuntarily being immersed in vivid memories.

Talk Therapy

Whatever you’re going through, it matters.

This time-tested form of therapy involves using conversation and guided questions to help you better understand your emotions and behaviors. We explore past experiences that may have influenced and shaped your beliefs and thoughts.

Whether you’re looking to resolve current issues, process past events, or gain more self-understanding, talk therapy sessions provide a judgment-free space to heal and grow.

Drawing on different tools and approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, grounding techniques, and coping skills, therapy can help you move forward with more confidence, resilience, and understanding.

And just in case you’re wondering—you don’t have to feel bad in order to feel better. Therapy isn’t just about processing The Big Stuff. Anyone who struggles with stress, self-esteem, worry, sadness, grief, or anger can benefit from talking to a therapist.

Your feelings are valid, you deserve support, and this is a great place to explore who you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re going.

In-person and virtual therapy sessions in Cincinnati

Here’s what to expect.

Individual therapy sessions run 50 minutes and are typically scheduled once a week to get started. You’ll see the same therapist consistently to be able to establish a trusting, genuine relationship.

While we recommend and encourage in-person therapy in our Cincinnati/Blue Ash office, we also offer convenient online therapy (telehealth) sessions to accommodate your schedule. Virtual sessions are great options to support consistent therapy sessions.

Our sessions are all about you, in your space and on your time—you decide what (and when) you’re comfortable sharing. You might be ready to talk about certain experiences right away, or you might need to take weeks or months before you’re ready to “go there.” We’re here to listen, guide, and help you process in a way that’s supportive and healing for you.

Take the next step. We’re here to help!

About therapy at Conscious Roots Counseling

We keep it genuine, honest, and supportive.

At Conscious Roots Counseling, we’re committed to creating a supportive space for you to process your past experiences, explore their impact on the present, and move forward with empowering tools to navigate your mental health.

Our philosophy is grounded in the fact that feelings and experiences have to be processed in order to be able to really move forward.

Trauma and uncomfortable emotions are like weeds—if we don’t want them to grow back, we need to dig down to the source and pull out the roots. But the point isn’t just to dig up the garden. The point is to make room for flowers to grow, and eventually, to hand you the tools to keep doing the tending.

Questions? That’s totally normal.

What’s on your mind?

  • Some people already know that they’d like to try EMDR, for example, but if you’re unsure, that’s completely okay.

After you inquire, we’ll do our best to match you with a therapist who’ll be a good fit for you. As your therapist develops a deeper understanding of who you are and what kind of support would be helpful, they can guide you with an approach that’s customized to you.

  • Absolutely. You deserve to feel respected, seen, and understood by your therapist, without fear that they’re going to judge you or your identity. When we work together, you’re free and encouraged to be your authentic self.

  • We know that dealing with insurance, trying to figure out your benefits, and considering the cost of therapy can be complicated. We try to make it as clear as possible and offer help along the way.

At Conscious Roots Counseling, we only accept CareSource. All other clients are considered private pay/out-of-network. Reimbursement for therapy sessions can vary depending on your out-of-network benefits.

To determine your out-of-network benefits, you can use this guide. Feel free to also reach out and we can explain how out-of-network benefits work.

Our 2024 therapy rates are as follows:

    • Intake session = $150

    • 45-50 minute individual session = $125

    • Reports = $30

    • Phone calls after the first 10 min = $50

    • No show/Late cancel charge = $125

    • Court appearances = $3,000

If you’re curious about the cost of therapy, you can read our blog on the topic.

  • Absolutely anything shared is fully confidential with rare, strict exceptions we would review regarding safety. The notes we need to take remain secure in our system with all identities kept private. We obtain written consent before ever coordinating care with other providers. You determine what, if anything, you’re comfortable sharing outside our sessions.

  • We are centrally located in the Greater Cincinnati area. Our office is in Blue Ash, and our office building backs up to Summit Park. Most of our clients come from neighboring areas such as Montgomery, Indian Hill, West Chester, Mason, Deer Park, Wyoming, Sharonville, Loveland.
